Measure around the fullest part of your chest under the arms for your total chest circumference.
The best way to measure jersey chest size is by laying it out flat on a surface and measuring it from armpit to armpit on one side. Take baseball uniforms as an example, if the armpit to armpit is around 25 inches on one side, then to circumference will be 50 inches, which is L size. You can similarly get other sizes.
Another option is to take the measuring tape and wrap it around your chest, just under your armpits.
If you are worried about the length, you can also measure from the top of your shoulder, down to your waist area to give you an idea of where the typical jerseys will lay on your waist or leg area. Once you have the measurements you can look at a size chart.
Remember, if you want a tight fit, then go with the size jersey that is closest to your measurements. If you want your jersey to be baggy, then go to the next size up.
